Our Church Has Moved To Our New Property! This Sunday (and beyond) our worship service will be held at 7868 Old-M-78 in East Lansing.
Our name change is also reflected in the move. We are now officially Christ Church of East Lansing (or simply Christ Church).
Worship Time begins at 10:30 Sunday morning and a celebration feast will follow.
[Our new location is just off the I-69/East Lansing & Haslett exit where Saginaw Highway, Marsh Road, I-69 and Old M-78 all converge.]

Our church is, admittedly, a peculiar gathering of believers, at least in our approach to worship. We are a body of charismatic worshippers who have great appreciation for ancient traditions and customs. It does indeed create a very unique worship experience!

Bob Freeman plays the hamonica (top left), while Craig Dumont II (top right) is learning to man the soundboard. Three weeks ago we didn't have a saxaphone player, but today we have two! Mark Laforet and Jerod Kimmey provide some smooth music!

In his book, The Liberating Image: The Imago Dei in
Genesis 1, J. Richard Middleton writes, "the interpretation of the
imago Dei among systematic theologians almost universally excludes the
body from the image (whether explicitly or by omission), thus
entrenching a dualistic reading of the human condition . . . [T]he
unwarranted limitation of the image (to either a set of properties of
the soul or to the human-divine relation) continues to perpetuate an
implicit devaluation of the concrete life of the body in relation to
spirituality."

Our church won round one of our legal fight with Meridian Township's attempt to shut down our ministries and building program. The Township appealed to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati and after a two and a half year wait, the justices decided the Township could discriminate against us. Round three, Lord willing, will be taken up soon with an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Here's several accounts of our situation:

The Church Is A Fellowship of Joy and Celebration
By Craig R. Dumont, Sr.
As we move forward in the advent season focusing our thoughts upon the wonderful fulfillment of all God's promises in the Incarnation, the arrival of Emmanuel, God with us, Jesus Christ, this third Sunday is to represent the Joy of the Lord.
This is an aspect of the Church that needs to be constantly addressed and placed right near the top of the list of what the Church should be, must be and is.The Church, with the understanding that it is made up of the Redeemed, even though it has it's false confessors and imitators, is at its foundation a fellowship of joy because God has saved us from our sin and made us to be joint heirs with Christ Jesus.

Lakeside Christian School under New Management! (Us!)
Pre-K through 12th grade
If you're thinking of a change from homeschooling for the second semester, check us out! We're "new and improved."
For almost 4 years OCC has been attempting to extend and fulfill our calling to reestablish education upon a full-orbed Christian Biblical Worldview. During this time we have been involved in a long legal battle with Meridian Township. However God has graciously allowed us to pursue this ministry even as we continue to fight the Township's discrimination. Recently our church purchased Lakeside Christian School located at 7868 Old M-78 in East Lansing (See the conceptual drawing of what it may look like in a year) and we are looking forward to revamping every area and offering educational excellence to Christian parents in the Greater Lansing Area! Call Dr. Ian Hodge at 339-1037 or email to Ian@OkemosChristianCenter.com for more information about the next semester (Beginning January 20th, 2008).

Okemos Christian Center Dance Ministry
Directed by Jennifer Shuptar
The purpose of Okemos Christian Center's Dance Ministry is to promote creative expression through the art of liturgical and expressive dance, and to provide an alternative language for the worship of our Lord Jesus Christ. As we engage in deep, humble worship and passionate praise, we will be educated by the Holy Spirit.
The dance ministry team is featured this Sunday (July 1st) and will perform on a regular basis.
